Dr. Harry H. Black is more than a physician — he’s a man who has stood on both sides of the surgical table. For over 35 years, Dr. Black practiced as a General Surgeon, helping thousands of patients face the unimaginable with clarity, dignity, and strength. But in 2021, everything changed. At age 67, Dr. Black was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive forms of prostate cancer: Gleason 9.

After decades of guiding others through their darkest moments, he suddenly found himself navigating his own. That personal confrontation with cancer didn’t just challenge his medical knowledge — it transformed his perspective, his priorities, and ultimately, his purpose.

A Doctor Who Became the Patient

Dr. Black’s journey through cancer—facing fear, embracing uncertainty, and making high-stakes treatment decisions—allowed him to experience firsthand the gaps, confusion, and overwhelming flood of information that so many patients endure. As he fought through treatment and recovery, he realized the healthcare system often falls short in empowering people to truly participate in their healing.

That realization became the foundation for his next chapter.
